Motoring interests

Interest in motor vehicles started with a collection of Corgi and Dinky model cars purchased in primary school. Father owned several Holdens, so loyal Red supporter in the Holden vs Ford rivalry. This also led him to the flamboyant American cars of the era but, engineering students at university soon converted him to European cars. He also worked part-time at the Leyland car plant in Zetland to support his studies in politics and economics.

Later indulged a growing passion for Lancias that started with a Beta 2000 HPE. He then raced a Flavia 2000 Coupe in classic rallies and lap dashes. While living in Hong Kong, he bought one of the few Lancia Delta Integrales sold new with factory RHD. It now awaits vital repairs at Lambda Motors, so is currently driving a Nissan 350Z.

 

Career

Tom took honours in politics in his first degree. He later majored in corporate finance, strategy, and economics in his MBA at the AGSM. Worked as a financial economist in stock broking and funds management.

Tom worked for Prime Minister and friend Paul Keating as Senior Political Adviser in Canberra. His career in politics culminated in a short term as an Australian Senator. Infuriated the Senate by requesting an official car with manual transmission, LSD, and wide mag wheels.

Tom moved to Hong Kong living and working in Asia for the next 16 years, including a senior role with the DHL Group that covered Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the Asia Pacific. He studied Mandarin at the Beijing Language & Culture University before moving to Singapore. Is currently advising a start-up company in supply chain technology and advises in blockchain technology, financial payments, aviation, and health care.
